Sustainability
In a spirit of transparency and continuous improvement of our brand, we partnered with Lucioles Conseil to calculate the environmental impact of our creations.
We traced the life cycle of our products - from raw materials to end-of-life, including knitting, manufacturing, use, and transportation. This comprehensive overview allowed us to better understand the contribution of each stage to the environmental impact of our pieces across several impact criteria.
Regarding climate change (the most well-known impact criterion), the results are in : the items measured emit between 0.56 kg and 1,45 kg of CO2 equivalent.
On average, our measured items are 70% less impactful than their counterparts in accessible luxury.
The difference is partly due to our sourcing and production methods : our fabrics are woven in Portugal, while finishing and manufacturing take place in France. European countries primarily rely on nuclear energy, which is much less carbon-intensive than the energy sources used in China or Bangladesh.
The gap is further explained by the calculation method for upcycled pieces. Since we use deadstock materials, we consider the first four stages of the clothing life cycle (Material, Spinning, Weaving, and Finishing) to have zero impact. These four stages are often the main contributors to a product's environmental impact due to the resource-intensive processes involved in growing materials and manufacturing. By using upcycling for our Blue Flower Dress, for example, we reduce its environmental impact by 91% compared to the same dress made with new materials.
This study has helped us better highlight the impact related to manufacturing stages and energy consumption in different countries. It also showed that the transport-related impact is often negligible in the overall footprint of a product.
In our constant effort to improve our brand and reduce our impact, we aim to explore new avenues of eco-design. Given the excellent results of upcycling, we are now focusing on how to implement this approach across all our creations.
